The Growing Process

Upon starting this microgreen business, we were blessed with the supplies to get started growing microgreens hydroponically which is soilless. Since the beginning, we have discovered the benefits of selling living microgreens and have stuck with this method of growing about 95% of our crops.

Although there are some seeds that do not do well with the hydroponic method, (we do grow these varieties as well) it is our main way of growing microgreens. We have learned that in addition to the preserved nutritional value, the hydroponic growing method also minimizes mess and waste. The growing process is very unique and results in a highly nutritious vegetable with great taste!

  1. We seed the coconut coir mat with a designated amount of seeds. After they get a good watering, they are ready to be covered and placed on the germination rack. The room in which the microgreens grow in is temperature and humidity controlled. It is a clean and sterile space to prevent any issues with the microgreens.

  2. We then top water the seeds every day until the seeds germinate. After we see signs of germination, we take off the black covering and place them under the grow lights. At this point the seeds are bottom watered and are placed under grow lights that are on for 18 hours and off for 6 hours. This mimics the outdoor conditions that a seed would normally grow and thrive in. During this time, the leaves go from a yellow color to a beautiful green and by harvest day, the microgreens will be that vibrant color that each variety is categorized by.

  3. After the microgreens have gone through the entire germination process, they are ready for you to harvest at home. Taking live microgreens home and harvesting them when you are ready to eat them, ensures the highest level of nutrition and freshness.
